Course Overview
Confined space work kills rescuers as often as entrants. Every level of this programme is taught on our confined space rig, with live gas detection, tripod and winch retrieval, and rescue drills under time pressure.
What You Will Be Able to Do
- Identify a confined space and the specified risks it presents
- Apply entry permits, isolation and atmospheric testing correctly
- Use gas detectors, ventilation, harnesses and retrieval systems
- Perform the attendant and supervisor roles competently
- Execute a non-entry rescue without becoming a second casualty
Course Content
- Confined space definition, legislation and specified risks
- Atmospheric hazards: oxygen, flammables and toxics
- Gas detection: bump testing, calibration and interpretation
- Isolation, blinding, purging and ventilation
- Entry permits, roles and communication protocols
- Breathing apparatus and escape sets
- Tripod, winch, harness and retrieval systems
- Emergency and non-entry rescue procedures
